What should I write about?

I still owe a code sample about using DependencyObject from a previous post (I will write that!), however I'm curious what would interest the couple people out there that read this... besides my boring opinions about the universe, and my adventures with aquatics, what do you want to read about?

  1. Design issues that we are tackling for the next release of Windows (Beta 1?)?
  2. History of the PDC bits (how we formed Avalon, etc.)?
  3. How to code with the PDC bits?
  4. Some other topic?

I'm happy to do a combination of all of the above, or skip them all... what do you care about... I just don't want to becoming boring... that would just be sad.

Topics: How a namespace like 'MSAvalon' was arrived at? Why it is okay to violate namespace naming standards? Why so much goes into the 'System' namespace?

And on another note: The stuff coming, current problems for you = future solutions for us.

A combination of 1, 2 and 3 would be cool.

I'd particularly like some pointers on the best way to wow colleagues with the abilities of the longhorn build that's sitting unused on my machine right now!

What are the coolest bits of Avalon - give us some sample XAML that'll make them cry!

Looking forward to it :)

1 is interesting as i am a coder (always enjoy seeing what goes through others minds), but mostly it is the non-technical stuff that keeps me coming back :)

1 & 2 interest me. But more than that, it is no. 3, especially when it addresses those unique problems that developers are/will be facing. Please don't write new app from scratch - 90% of the current apps are Win32. Write about interop and migration to WinFX. Please write how to port DrawCli to WinFX.

1 & 3 are fragile and susceptible to changes which makes it not so interesting. 2 and 4 makes for some interesting blog reading.

I forgot to ask why you think only "couple people out there that read this", I think there is a lot more interested people that you think.
Thanks for your always interesting feeds.
Cheers,

How about not writing about your sump anymore?

Thanks.

All of the pre-PDC hype was great! Maybe if you attend more weddings with Don Box.... I enjoy all of your content - I like surprises.

I think 2 and 3 would be best. I tend to agree with Vimal that 3 will change over time, however as these changes occur I will have the knowledge of why and what problems occured when a new or different path was chosen.

I'd love to know the history of Avalon , but I'm also interesting more about Microsoft and desktop standards. Why didn't it embrace XUL? Why isn't SVG in Avalon? Will you submit XAML to the W3C? What is XAML and Avalon going to mean for the future of Internet standards?

I would be fascinated by the history of Avalon. In particular, several bloggers have eluded to a major refactoring which took place over the past 6 months. As an architect, it would be interesting to know the reasons behind such a major refactoring and the advantages it has given. Of course, a discussion about this would not be complete without the disadvantages you have seen. How did you refactor the code? I expect the VS.Net refactoring tools were too immature - so have you got internal dev tools or did you write some quick and dirty perl?

I think a boring guy like you should stop trying to distract people with stupid posts, and return to real work.
At the end of the day, anyone can see if your software makes sense or not.
Leave the buzz for the scoble clowns.

Actually, I like your sump-pump stories. I've found that engineering problem-solving skills translate into all areas of life ... so its interesting to see how other engineers use those skills for the trials of life.

* Go grap a enligh muffin, bacon, cheese, and egg sandwich.
* Go and return your camera, your TiVo, and your Sony Wega.

And stop being the unanimously most boring guy ever. Avalon is boring if one of its architects is you.

I like the sump pump stories too! Sometimes my son puts me "on the spot" and asks me to tell him somthing that I found out today. He usually finds software development stuff a bit esoteric (he's only 4) so a couple of times I have related chapters from the sump pump saga to him, which he has found quite entertaining.
